8th Grade Language Arts, Literature, Latin: Sept 8-12
Now we are back in the swing of things. This week we will have two Latin vocabulary review tests, meanings only. This will help the kids with their Latin translations. We will have reviewed all of last year’s vocabulary by the end of this first six weeks. We have gone over the tense formations of the first conjugation verbs and have moved onto the second conjugation. We are up to the point where we stopped last year. Review is the key word in English grammar also, and I am pleased to see that the kids’ performance here is strong. Shurley seems to make a deep and lasting impression. In Literature we have begun to work in earnest on how to use literary terms when discussing stories. The Prentice Hall multiple choice tests are not easy, and we are working on understanding the question before answering. Students can gain back points on their tests by writing brief paragraphs proving why the correct answer is right. They will have the rest of the week to correct their papers. All materials must be turned in by Friday to receive the extra credit. If you have any questions please feel free to call or make an appointment to meet with me from 3:00-3:45.
