6th Grade Assignments Sept 8-12

6th Grade Language Arts, Literature, Latin Sept 8-12

In Latin this week we will study new vocabulary and how to conjugate our new verbs.  The theme in spelling is words with short vowels.  In Grammar we’ll be working on identifying complete and simple subjects and predicates.  Our focus in Literature will be on characters: what makes them special, and how we get to know them through their actions and through other characters’ eyes.  Finally the students will have a chance to write a short essay about their field trip experience.  Friday we’ll have a quick spelling test and then try to listen to everyone’s essay about the field trip.  I’ll provide some sort of a snack for the “munch and read our essays” part of the lesson.  We’ll try to end each week with different kinds of munching and reading experiences. [I already allow them to snack after the first 45 minute session.  I am asking that they eat healthy brain nourishing food then.  We can splurge a little on Fridays.] Speaking of reading, please take this week to ensure that your child has an at home reader, either a novel or a biography or autobiography.  Beginning September 15, I will expect that each 6th grader will read at least 20 minutes every night.  Hopefully our library will be ready for us to check out books this week, but in case our volunteers are not ready, please help your child locate a book so that he/she can be ready to begin by the 15th.
