6th Grade Language Arts, Literature, Latin Nov. 17-21
Last week of 2nd term
Because I was absent on Wednesday, we put off learning the imperfect tense in Latin, which refers to continuous action in the past such as, “We used to swim” or “We were swimming.” We’ll begin learning how to form the verbs this week. Our spelling lesson deals with words with schwas, which are unstressed vowels, and students who bring me a practice test Friday will receive a little bit of extra credit. We’ll be reading about life in the 1800s in literature, but we’re also studying the skill of compare and contrast. The sixth grade students need to study their story questions Wednesday night to learn the important details from the story. They will also begin their Christmas story. This story will be an aspect of the original Christmas story told through the eyes of a character that the children create. The students will be able to showcase their writing skills, their understanding of the elements of a short story, and their knowledge of the mechanics of writing. ALL STORIES MUST BE COMPLETED BY DECEMBER 16 so they can be properly copied and bound. That includes artwork and decorating pages. Also, we do not have colored ink, so please prepare for this assignment with ink, paper, etc. or make arrangements to have the works printed at an office supply.
