PFO Weekly Mail for October 26, 2006

“Yonder come day, day is a breakin’, sun is a-risin’ in my soul.” So begins the words to a beloved spiritual performed by the school choir, known as the St. Stephen’s Singers. Each morning at daybreak, thirteen dedicated and delightfully enthusiastic 4th-8th grade children make the extra effort to get to school early each day for rehearsals while managing to keep up with their school work and other activities. Making music together is a joyous way to begin each day.

The group kicked off their performance season by opening the school talent show at the school’s book fair in September... On behalf of the Episcopal Church Women, the Singers recently provided entertainment and presented roses along with personally decorated cards to the residents of Deer Creek Nursing Center who were celebrating October birthdays. This Friday, October 27, the choir will give a concert for the school at 11:45 in the chapel. Parents and friends are welcome to attend. The choir often leads the school chapel service on Fridays will get to sing at the Sunday, November 12th St. Stephen’s Church service at 10:30am.

Soon the choir will begin learning holiday repertoire... 4th-8th grade students interested in joining the choir for the holiday season should visit with Mrs. Riepe, music director. The Singers will perform and lead Christmas carols at the Emily Ann Theater on December 6 and hopefully one or two other venues. The holiday season will culminate with their performance at Las Posadas, St. Stephen’s traditional school Christmas program on December 14th.

Not surprisingly, the St. Stephen’s Singers love to perform... If you know of a community group or event that might appreciate a concert by these school ambassadors, please inform Mrs. Riepe, You can reach her through the school office or rdriepe@centurytel.net.
