This year my history classes have enjoyed a variety of activities to enhance the learning environment while having a good time. The seventh grade created 3-D Indian dwellings of the Texas Tribes and these were displayed at the Wimberley Village Library in town for the community to enjoy. They also took part in a group assignment in which they wrote a historical novel that was beautifully illustrated about the conquistadors. The Sixth graders created colorful illustrations of the Ancient River Valley Civilizations with facts associated on each subject. In the Spring they will be creating a model of a 3-D castle when we discover the Middle Ages. These castles will be displayed in the Village Library as well. In our United States History class, the eighth graders created game boards relating to the American Revolution. A quick roll of the dice and you could end up freezing at Valley Forge for a winter encampment! These are just a few of the tools that the history deptment uses to keep the students interested in history.
