Bingo, cookie decorating, piano playing and singing were all part of the St. Stephen’s second grade visit to the Summit Assisted Living Center in Austin. The 14 students in Martha McLean’s class schedule many community service projects in their school year including collecting enough pennies to purchase a goat donated to Samaritan’s Purse.
“The students and residents definitely had a mutual affection for one another that you could see in the smiles filling the room,” said Lisa Clark, one of the room mothers who went along on the trip.
One student, Grant Galassini, entertained with some tunes on the piano and his classmate Auden McBeath sang to the residents. All the students found a pal at the community and decorated cookies with them and joined in on a friendly game of bingo. The class sang two songs to the residents and then gave them Valentine cards they had made in class. Each resident held on to their card as though it was a precious treasure.
