From the Headmaster: Starting the day at St. Stephen's

The spirit of Episcopal School is captured in a snapshot of action which happens each morning from 7:50-8:30am. As students arrive to school they are met by a smiling greeter at the drop off gate who greets them by name. Parents who walk their children in are also me by the greeter, often by first name. Being know at SSES, by everyone, is an important part of our school culture. Students process to their classrooms where the first five minutes of class is in active listening and participation during music in the morning followed by the school prayer and the pledge of allegiance. The music in the morning curriculum involves a historical blurb read by our music teacher Anne Jones followed by classical music from a composer a week piped into each classroom through the school intercom. The school prayer and pledge is led by two primary school students also through the intercom. With this our school values and priorities are set each day; kind and loving behavior and active listening and learning in a student centered environment. After this the student process to chapel, which is hosted by a different group each day. The students sit in mixed aged assigned seats and truly shepherd one another. The chapel experience reaffirms our values and the important intangible of being known by the whole community.
